Alma Marie James Dixon

–

Alexandria, LA

2nd Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Alma Marie James Dixon was born December 2, 1954 to her parents the late Alphonso James and Ruth (Hardison) James. Alma accepted Christ into her life at early age as a member of Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. J. Bell. As years passed she moved her membership to Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. James S. Hardison, Sr.

Because of her love of praise and music she became an active member of the Inspirational Choir. Alma's passion to sing for God lead her to join two community choirs, recorded artist Second Coming and Risen and United Voices of Alexandria. After thoughtful consideration with God, she joined Zion Hill Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor Joshua Joy Dara. She continued her love of singing as a member of the Sanctuary Choir until her health would no longer permit.

Alma was a graduate of Holy Savior Menard, class of 1971. In the fall of that year she enrolled in Grambling College where she obtained a degree in Business Administration and a daughter. In 1974 she was united in marriage to
Charles C. Dixon, and to this union two sons were born.

Alma became employed by the Rapides Parish School System as a Teachers Aid at South Alexandria Primary (Alma Redwine Elementary). A few years later she became employed by the Rapides Parish Highway Department. After many years her working career transitioned to employment with Cleco. Working first in their customer call center and then advancing her way to the accounting department.

After twenty plus years of service she retired and began taking care of her mother. As her mother's health improved she returned to work for a former classmate Thomas David, of Pan American Engineers. She was employed there for fifteen years until her health would no longer allow her to work.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents Alfonso and Ruth(Hardison) James, and grandmother Alma W. Redwine. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Devita Hamilton, Alexandria, LA, Son Phillip(La Tasha) Dixon, Laurel, MD, Son Clifton(La Shondra)Dixon, Alexandria, LA; Braylon Dixon, Phillip Dixon,lI; Bonus grandchildren Joshua Figgins, and Daelyn Johnson. A special Granddaughter Miss Briley Speir. Brother Bryan James, Alexandria, LA; Aunt Mrs. Walterine (Mack)McClain of Riverside, CA, Sisters in Law Shirley Ann Parker, Williston, FL; Marilynn Russell, Williston, FL; and Katherine Dixon, Dunedin, FL. A multitude of relatives, dear friends and co-workers left to cherish her memory.
