Norviel Anderson Nelson, Jr. Obituary (1950 - 2023)

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith... 2 Timothy 4:7 Norviel Anderson Nelson, Jr. affectionately known as "Junior" was born on July 5, 1950, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the late Norviel Sr. and Mary Thernase Nelson. He entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 6, 2023, at his home in Alexandria, Louisiana. Junior was baptized at an early age and attended First St. Mark Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He was a veteran that served in the United States Army. He later was employed with the City of Alexandria for over 15 years in the Parks department and then he became a custodian at Huey P. Long Hospital where he was employed until the closure. Norviel was a graduate of Peabody Magnet High School. In his younger years, he loved to race cars. He was also an avid fisherman whenever time permitted. Junior was an extremely private person however, he loved his family unconditionally. Always smiling! Junior had a passion for his neighbors and friends. He never met a stranger. Those who knew him will cherish his memories, his soft-spoken words, quiet demeanor, even though he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Norviel was preceded in death by his parents Norviel Nelson, Sr. and Mary Thernase Nelson, three sisters, Irene Nelson, Sadie King and Ida Nelson; one brother, Pompy Nelson (Vivian) and one nephew, Steven King. Norviel Anderson Nelson, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories; five nieces, Marilynn Adams of Houston, Texas, Cheryl Alexander (Derrick) of Alexandria, Louisiana, Frankie Wilson of Newport News, Virginia, Lisa Harvey (Anthony) of Houston, Texas, Angela Guillot (Brian) of Pineville, Louisiana; three nephews Nathaniel King of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Michael Nelson (Laneisha) of Lecompte, Louisiana, Marc Nelson (LaTina) of Killeen, Texas; a very special friend Gertrude Marks; and a host of other relatives and friends.
