The Obituary of
SARAH ANN BLACKSTONE LLOYD
A Time to Be Born:
Sarah Ann Blackstone Lloyd was the first child of Bertha Lee Geystan Blackstone and John Seldon Blackstone. She was born January 14, 1937, having been delivered at home, by midwife Henrietta Early. Her birth certificate was signed January 15, 1937, which became her official date of birth. We celebrated her birth on both days.
A Time to Plant:
Sarah Ann gave her life to Christ at the age of 12, and in 1949, she was baptized by Rev. C.D. Day at Union Baptist Church in Alexandria, Louisiana.
She possessed a deep and abiding mother's love and strength that instilled and inspired her to pour the same powerful, unbreakable, selfless and unconditional love into her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, God-children and all who were able to experience the blessing of Sarah Ann.
In 1955, she joined her husband as a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. They later moved their membership to Second Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church.
A Time to Love:
Sarah Ann met her high school sweetheart, Alec G. "A.G." Lloyd at Peabody High School. They both played in the Peabody High School band. They joined in matrimony on November 5, 1955, in Alexandria. To this union, five children were born: Charles Calvin, Cheryl Renee, Camille, Katrina Elaine and Bertha Lee. They were married fifty-five years, when A.G. transitioned from his earthly home.
A Time to Develop and Give Back:
Sarah Ann attended Saint James Elementary School and graduated from Peabody High School in 1955. A faithful student of the gospel and teachings of the Bible, she taught Sunday School every Sunday morning for 40 years. Her direct influence impacted many in the Bayou Rapides community, as she was deeply loved and respected. She was the angelic soprano voice of the Senior Choir and a faithful member of the Women's Mission. Also, as an avid gardener, she ensured the church was decorated with live greenery and flowers, and during Vacation Bible School, her gift was arts and crafts. She was an inaugural member of Sisters on a Mission, the local cancer support group for African American women.
In her vocation, Sarah Ann spent 30 years with Universal Life Insurance Company, where she performed as the book-keeper and administrative assistant. Her attention to detail kept everyone on their toes and ensured the company's success.
A Time to Rest:
Surrounded by love and while the song, "Yes, by Shekinah Glory," played in the background, Sarah Ann entered eternal rest on the morning of February 20, 2025 at her home on Bayou Rapides.
The eldest of ten children, Sarah Ann was preceded in death by her parents Bertha and John Blackstone, her husband Alec G. Lloyd, and four brothers, Donald Calvin, John, Jr., V. Joseph, and Jackie Maurice.
A Time to Mourn:
Sarah Ann's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves to celebrate her life, her children: Charles Lloyd (Rosemary) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Cheryl Lloyd Ridley, Camille Lloyd, Katrina Lloyd-Wims of Alexandria, and Bertha Lloyd Fuller (Sean) of Forney, Texas; her grandchildren: Carle Ridley, Rashonda Lloyd, Stacy Lloyd, Michelle Dye Rankin, Ronald Lloyd Dye, Kierra Lloyd Fernandez (Anthony), Ashlee Ridley Green (Thomas), Brandon Byrd (Gabrielle), Zaakira Lovett, Alexcia Smith, and Zachary Fuller; and her great-grandchildren: Joakim Rankin, Anthony Dye, Daniel Dye, Jeremiah Dye, Kai Kaleb Rankin, Zarah Rankin, Rosie Boose, Mina Rankin, Macie Byrd, Callie Byrd, Alec Byrd, Aubree Fernandez and Anthony Fernandez III, as well as her siblings: Leon Blackstone (Lois), Marilyn Blackstone Schomberg (Dean), Nina Blackstone Jemmott (Rupert), Mary E. Blackstone Johnson (Dale), and Virgil Wayne Blackstone (Randy); her sister-in-law, Judy Lloyd Franklin; her god-children: Shanta Smith Price, Earl Bowman and Kevin Thomas; and a loving ensemble of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
