Arthur James Washington , Sr. Obituary (1932

Arthur James Washington, Sr. transitioned on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Matthews Memorial Care Facility, Alexandria, Louisiana. Arthur James "Main" Washington, Sr. was born to the union of the late Mr. Earnest Washington, Sr. and Mrs. Monette Davis Washington on September 9, 1932 in Gold Dust, Louisiana. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. A.C. Marshall of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He was given the nickname of "Main Man" by his Mother as he worked hard as a young boy and could be counted on and took on the role of being the "Main Man" of the house after his father's death. Main became the affectionate name all the family used instead of Arthur. He attended schools in St. Landry and Rapides Parish. Later he found the love of his life, Nettie Mae Nash and they were married on October 10, 1964 and to this union three boys (Arthur Jr., Kenneth Sr. and Anthony) were born and they also raised a niece (Wanda). Arthur was a member of Annadale Baptist Church where he served as Head Usher and moved his membership to Greater Magnolia Baptist Church until his death. Arthur worked at Pearson Furniture Company, Carruth Properties and later Cotton Holsum Bakery until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, participating in all family activities, loved to visit and talk with his children, family and friends. Arthur had many gifts and skills as he assisted in the care for his mother, father and three of his siblings until their death. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking, taught his sons how to cook, clean and take care of their yards. "Main" as lots of family affectionately called him, even taught his nieces how to sew as he was a man of many talents. Arthur loved flowers and kept his yard looking the best, he would say God gave him so much and the least he could do was take care of all his blessings. He was forgiving and loving, very clean, neat and everything must be in it's place type of man. Arthur was a favorite "Uncle Main" to all of his nieces and nephews and even friends of family as he believed in Family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Mae Nash Washington; his parents, Earnest and Monette Washington; six brothers: Aaron, Dave Sr., Earnest Jr., Oscar and Lawrence Washington and Jim Jefferson; four sisters: Iona Ballot, Jessie Mae Jordan, Hester Kyles and Etta Veal. Arthur leaves to cherish his memories: three boys: Arthur James Washington, Jr. (Ramona) of Alexandria, LA; Kenneth Wayne Washington (LaDena) and Anthony JerWayne Washington of Kansas City, Kansas; a niece they helped raise: Wanda Nash of Los Angeles, California; one brother, Lionel Washington, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren: Darius, Nakeedra, Kenneth Jr., Kristian and Kennedi Washington; four great-grandchildren: Jordan, Amiyah, Cayden, and Maliyah LaCour; two God-children: Natalie Evette Lee (Oscar) and Ronald Dean Washington, Sr (Pamela); a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
