Ellery "Blake" Elie, Sr. Obituary (1956 - 2024)

Obituary Ellery Marshall Elie, Sr., affectionally known as Blake, was born to Wilbert Elie, Sr and Thelma Jacob Elie, in Pineville, Louisiana, on August 11, 1956. He entered eternal rest surrounded by family on Friday, January 19, 2024. Blake received his education in the Rapides Parish School System. He was baptized at an early age at St. James Memorial Catholic Church and later joined Second Union Missionary Baptist church under the direction of Reverend Joseph Martin, Jr. In 1974, he enlisted into the United States Armed Forces, after serving his country, he went on to follow in his father's footsteps and became a carpenter. Early in life, Blake's father, "Dut", taught him the fundamentals of carpentry and fishing. These arts became passions that he grew to love. As an avid, carpenter and "Bass" fisherman, Blake talked, walked, and breathed fishing and he made a life legacy through carpentry. There was nothing Blake could not make or build. Waking up early in the morning, getting his rods, reels, and tackle box ready, pulling his boat, and heading for the lake was a hobby that made his heart and soul content. Blake was a long-time member of the Pine Liner Bass Anglers Fishing Club, where he won many awards. He enjoyed competing with his friends and teaching others his fishing techniques. However, his greatest fishing moments occurred when he would go with his wife, children, and grandkids. It was the year 2000, when Blake reunited with his childhood friend, Barbara Ann Chapman Elie, who he was married to for 19 loving years. Many will remember how Blake's laughter and energy could fill a room. Blake had a love for people. He could hug you, feed you, love you and curse you out all at the same time. That was just his love language. Blake was a real competitor, it wasn't a domino game you wouldn't catch him at talking smack and he has the trophies to back him up. Even when his health began to decline he still served his family, friends, and community by making a way to be a vessel when needed. Blake truly fought a good fight until the end, never giving up. He loved his family and would do anything to help anyone in need. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Blake is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert Elie, Sr. and Thelma Jacob Elie; his godparents which raised him, Walter and Virgie Elie; four brothers, Audrey "Tatum" Elie, John "Munn" Elie, Larry Elie, Sr. and Wilbert "Possum" Elie; three sisters, Dora "Sis" Elie, Patricia "Mukie" Elie, and Agnes Rose Elie. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 19 years, Barbara Elie; children, Ellery Elie, Jr. (Latrice), Carlina Elie, Wilbert Marshall, Jackie Chapman, Shakila Chapman, and Marcus Johnson; 4 sisters, Ella Bee Pearson, Eileen Elie, Barbara Page, and Latesha Moore; four brothers, John "Leg" Elie, James Elie (Harriet), Roger Price, Sr. (Sharon), and Felton Price, Sr. (Elaine); his best friend of 67 years Darrell Carmouche; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
